The American College of Radiology (ACR) has prepared a summary describing the implications of a new Medicaid Managed Care proposed rule.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued the Medicaid Program; Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) Managed Care on November 8, 2019.
Overall, the proposed rule aims at increasing state flexibility, enhancing program integrity, and reducing administrative burden from the Medicaid and CHIP managed care programs, with specific plans to alter how states set network adequacy standards for Medicaid managed care plans.
CMS is proposing to no longer require time and distance standards, which limit how long and/or how far a patient has to travel to visit a specified type of provider but would allow states to set a quantitative minimum access standard for such providers.
Comments on these proposals are due to CMS by January 14, 2019.
