Medicare administrative contractors (MACs) will host a multi-jurisdictional Contractor Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting May 28 to discuss facet joint and medial nerve branch procedures.
Seven MACs will host the virtual meeting with participation by CAC members and subject matter experts to review the clinical literature related to facet joint and medial nerve branch procedures and to rate their confidence in a series of key questions.
The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services assigns MACs the task of developing Local Coverage Determinations (LCDs). The purpose of the CAC meeting is to provide a formal mechanism for healthcare professionals to be informed of the evidence used to develop LCDs and to promote communications between the MAC and the healthcare community.
The American College of Radiology® (ACR®) CAC network stands ready to respond and review content relevant to this meeting. We encourage anyone interested in facet joints to participate and track development of an LCD. Ultimately, a draft LCD will be circulated on the topics during a pre-defined public comment period.
Online registration is available to interested parties. Meeting details including an agenda, key questions, background material and a bibliography will be released by May 14.
