The American College of Radiology (ACR) presented four code families to the American Medical Association (AMA)/Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC) for valuation during the April 2019 meeting in Chicago.
The following code families were discussed:
- CT of the head or brain
- Introduction of catheter or stent
- X-ray of the bile ducts
- Lung biopsy with bundled imaging guidance
The time and value recommendations are based off of a collaborative survey process involving multiple specialties including the American Society for Neuroradiology, the Society for Interventional Radiology and several gastroenterology societies.
The ACR presented most of the families, led by Lauren Golding, MD, and Andrew Moriarity, MD, with support from ACR RUC Advisor, Kurt Schoppe, MD.
Ezequiel Silva III, MD, FACR, and William Donovan, MD, MPH, served on the RUC panel as the radiology RUC member and alternate RUC member, respectively.
Andrew Rosenkrantz, MD, Association of University Radiologists RUC advisor, and Michael Booker, MD, Radiological Society of North America RUC advisor, were also in attendance.
The ACR also supported the American Society for Radiation Oncology in its presentation for proton beam treatment delivery and closely followed the multispecialty discussions related to the valuation of office visits.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services will address these value recommendations in the 2020 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule.
The survey process for the October 2019 RUC meeting will begin in June 2019.
