On May 15, Stephen Ferrara, MD, announced his candidacy for the Arizona 9th Congressional District seat. Ferrara is a former U.S. Navy chief medical officer, distinguished interventional radiologist and Gulf War veteran.
Arizona’s 9th Congressional District is currently represented by Democratic Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema, who was re-elected to a third term in 2016. The National Republican Congressional Committee has identified this race as one of the top pick-up races for their party in the 2018 mid-term elections. Despite recent comments saying she would not run against Arizona U.S. Sen. Jeff Flake, many still believe Sinema will vacate her seat to challenge the senator.
The Republican primary for Ferrara is scheduled for August 28, 2018. Two other Republicans are vying for the same seat. The general election will be held on November 6, 2018.
