Earlier this week, House Democrats unveiled the Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions (HEROES) Act, a sweeping $3 trillion package designed to serve as a “marker” of Democratic priorities for furthering recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
In drafting the bill, the House Democratic leadership has generally remained consistent in its desire to focus on provisions related directly to COVID-19 and build upon prior pandemic-related legislative packages.
While the official House calendar remained in flux, Democratic leaders indicated their intention to vote on the HEROES Act (H.R. 6800) as soon as Friday, May 15. Despite this possible swift action, the Senate is not expected to consider the bill in the coming weeks. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), reiterated his desire to monitor implementation and impact of the previous legislative packages before considering any more broad-based bills.
The American College of Radiology® Government Relations team is monitoring these legislative efforts and continuing to engage lawmakers on a variety of relevant issues.
