The American College of Radiology (ACR) reminds members that May 15, 2018, is the deadline to report inaccuracies in new data compiled by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for its Open Payment Program. The information describes the nature and extent of gifts, grants and other forms of financial remuneration that drug and medical device companies directed to physicians and teaching hospitals in calendar year 2017.
On June 30, CMS will publish the 2017 data and updates for 2013 to 2016 in Open Payments Program Year 2017. The searchable database covers gifts and payments by pharmaceutical and medical device companies to physicians and teaching hospitals for travel, research, speaking fees, meals and similar products and services. The database also informs the public about ownership interests that physicians and their immediate family members hold in such companies. Data can be examined in aggregate or individual years for the past five years for specific physicians and teaching hospitals on the Open Payments website.
The Open Payments Program was mandated by the Affordable Care and Patient Protection Act. Additional information, including instructions for accessing and disputing data, is available on the CMS’ website.
