ACR Members Appointed to MEDCAC

The American College of Radiology (ACR) is delighted to announce Najeeb Mohideen, MD, FACR, and Laeton Pang, MD, MPH, FACR have been appointed to the Medicare Evidence Development and Coverage Advisory Committee (MEDCAC).

MEDCAC is an advisory panel to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) established to provide guidance and recommendations on clinical topics under review for national coverage and/or analysis. The advisory panel evaluates medical literature, technology assessments, public testimony, and examines the benefits, harms, and appropriateness of medical items and services that are covered or eligible for Medicare coverage.

Although MedCAC is advisory by nature, its recommendations to CMS on National Coverage Determinations (NCDs) are important. NCDs are binding on all Medicare carriers, fiscal intermediaries, quality improvement organizations, health maintenance organizations, competitive medical plans and health care prepayment plans.

The ACR is honored to have radiation oncology represented by Dr. Mohideen, chair of the ACR Radiation Oncology Economics Committee, and Dr. Pang, Carrier Advisory Committee representative for Hawaii.
