January 1, 2020, marks the formal implementation of the Protecting Access to Medicare Act (PAMA), a program in which ordering providers must consult a qualified clinical decision support (CDS) mechanism when ordering outpatient advanced imaging tests for Medicare patients.
In addition to driving intrinsic value, when delivered through clinical decision support (CDS), this directive creates opportunities for quality improvement.
Looking at the implementation deadline from this perspective, Neuroradiology Section Chief Ryan Lee, MD, and other radiology leaders at Einstein Healthcare Network, Philadelphia, partnered with their emergency departments and other clinical units to integrate CDS into the health system’s electronic medical record.
Their experience will be documented in a free hour-long webinar, sponsored by the American Hospital Association’s (AHA) Physician Alliance. “Ahead of the Curve: Radiology Practice as Catalyst for System-Wide Clinical Decision Support” will show how the CDS solution is paying dividends throughout the Einstein network for patients and is helping put referrers on the pathway to PAMA compliance.
ACR members, ordering physicians and hospital staff can all learn from the webinar at 11 am ET on Tuesday, April 23. Register now on the AHA website.
