ACR Begins April 2016 RUC Survey Cycle

The American College of Radiology (ACR) will launch eight American Medical Association/ Specialty Society Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC) surveys in preparation for the upcoming April 2016 RUC meeting in Chicago.

The following four surveys were circulated during the week of March 7 to randomly selected ACR members:

  • X-ray of the hand, wrist and finger
  • X-ray of the ribs
  • Selective catheter placement
  • Bone imaging

Four other code families will be drafted and launched in the next couple of weeks. These families include:

  • X-ray of the abdomen
  • X-ray of the chest
  • CT chest
  • CTA of abdomen and pelvis with runoff

In total, the ACR will survey over 25 codes for the April 2016 RUC survey cycle, making this a very busy meeting.

Because of an extremely short survey cycle, we ask ACR members who receive these surveys to complete them at their earliest convenience. Collected data will be analyzed and will serve as the basis for our time and value recommendations to the RUC.

Many of our surveys are multispecialty, so if you receive a second survey for the same code family from a different specialty society, please complete only one.

Values approved at the RUC in April will be submitted to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for consideration and publication in the 2018 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule.

Questions may be addressed to ACR RUC staff member Stephanie Le at or (800) 227-5463, ext. 4584.
