ACR to Launch RUC Surveys for April 2017 Cycle

The American College of Radiology (ACR) is preparing to release five American Medical Association (AMA)/Specialty Society Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC) surveys within the next week.

The surveys will cover the following families of codes:

  • X-ray of the esophagus
  • X-ray of the urinary tract
  • Ultrasound of the scrotum
  • CT scan for needle biopsy
  • Fluoroscopy

Surveys will be randomly distributed to ACR members. If you receive a survey and are familiar with the procedure, we highly encourage you to participate in this very important survey process.

Most of the surveys listed above will require a collaborative effort between the ACR and other specialties, such as the Society of Interventional Radiology, American Urological Association and the American Podiatric Medical Association. If you receive a survey for the same family from one of the other specialty societies, please only complete one of the surveys.

The survey cycle for the April meeting is extremely short and may only last a few weeks. Therefore, we ask that our members please complete the survey as soon as possible.

Data collected from these surveys will be aggregated and analyzed, and time and value recommendations will be presented to the RUC at the April meeting in Chicago. The approved values will be conveyed to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for consideration and eventual implementation in the 2019 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule.

Questions may be addressed by email to ACR RUC staff member Stephanie Le or by phone at (800) 227-5463, ext. 4584.
