The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently released updated 2018 Quality Payment Program (QPP) eligibility and measure lookup tools. Both can help physicians and group practices plan how to participate in the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS).
The QPP Eligibility Lookup Tool can be used to determine whether a physician’s National Provider Indicator (NPI) is required to participate in the QPP for 2018. It will also include a determination of that NPI’s patient-facing or non-patient-facing status. The patient-facing status determines whether MIPS-eligible physicians are required to participate in the Promoting Interoperability performance category, and also affects how many improvement activities an NPI is required to report.
The QPP Measure Lookup Tool has been updated to reflect 2018 MIPS measures and performance categories. It is an easy way for physicians to develop a plan for MIPS participation. Users can browse quality measures, improvement activities and Promoting Interoperability measures to select which measures and activities they intend to report for 2018. The tool will then allow users to save their selections for future reference.
