MedPAC Suggests Payment Streamlining in June Report to Congress

The Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) released its June 2022 Report to Congress June 15, outlining its recommendations to the secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) regarding several Medicare payment topics. MedPAC is an independent congressional agency created to advise Congress on issues affecting the Medicare program.

The American College of Radiology® (ACR®) developed a summary of the radiology-relevant topics included in the report. This includes MedPAC’s recommendations on approaches to streamline and harmonize Medicare’s portfolio of alternative payment models (APMs). Additionally, MedPAC analyzed whether it would be appropriate to align payment rates for certain services more closely across hospital outpatient departments (HOPDs), ambulatory surgical centers and freestanding physician offices.
