Radiology’s major governing associations defined a common vision of radiology safety, professional performance and customer service at the second joint Global Summit on Radiological Quality and Safety. That vision was published recently in Insights into Imaging.
The Global Summit, sponsored by the American College of Radiology (ACR) and European Society of Radiology (ESR), in October 2016 in Barcelona, involved an active exchange of ideas and formulations of global quality and safety strategies for radiology. Participants included national and international radiology societies, partner medical societies, and global organizations, such as the International Atomic Energy Agency and the World Health Organization, as well as patient advocacy groups.
Participants considered opportunities and challenges presented by teleradiology, 24-hour coverage, public/patients perception of radiologists, quality measurement, radiologist and radiographer professional performance, audits in radiology, malpractice, workforce shortages, big data and health technology assessment.
