Broad Coalition Urges Congress to Waive Budget Neutrality for Forthcoming E/M Policy

The American College of Radiology® (ACR®), in collaboration with a broad coalition of healthcare provider organizations, delivered a letter to Congressional leaders this week urging Congress to waive the budget neutrality requirements within the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule to provide relief from reimbursement cuts associated with changes to evaluation and management (E/M) codes.

Absent action by Congress, the forthcoming E/M changes will generate reimbursement cuts of approximately 8% to 9% for diagnostic radiology, beginning on January 1, 2021.

The letter, signed by 53 organizations representing both physician and non-physician healthcare providers, urges Congressional leadership to include provisions to address the E/M issue in any forthcoming health-related legislative package. This much-needed action by Congress will provide a critical reprieve for a broad scope of healthcare providers facing substantial payment reductions in the coming months.

The ACR Government Relations teams will provide additional information as it becomes available.
