The American College of Radiology (ACR) and a coalition of radiology specialty society advisors played an active role at the June 2017 Current Procedure Terminology (CPT®) Editorial Panel meeting in Boston. This was the second of three meetings to update codes for the 2019 CPT Code cycle. Codes approved in 2017 go into effect January 1, 2019.
The ACR sponsored five code proposals including new codes for knee arthrography injection, fine needle aspiration biopsy, breast MRI with computer-aided detection (CAD) and peripherally inserted central venous catheter (PICC) line. The College also proposed clarifying the use of the ultrasound extremity CPT codes 76881 and 76882.
Presenters included radiology CPT Advisors Mark Alson, MD, FACR (ACR); Tim Crummy, MD, FACR; Eric Rubin, MD (Radiological Society of North America); Dana Smetherman, MD, MPH, FACR (American Roentgen Ray Society); Tim Swan, MD (Society of Interventional Radiology) and other specialty advisors.
The editorial panel discussed the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA) and Alternative Payment Models (APM) modifiers.
Codes approved in 2017 go into effect Jan. 1, 2019.
