State legislatures in Georgia and Washington have recently advanced bills concerning advanced practice nurses and physician assistants (PAs).
In Georgia, S 109 was reintroduced in the senate and referred to the Senate Health and Human Services Committee. The bill would prohibit advanced practice registered nurses, who have been licensed for less than five years, from ordering radiographic imaging test excepts in life-threatening situations.
In Washington, S 5411 was reintroduced and referred to the Senate Committee on Health and Long Term Care. It would remove the provision requiring supervision of PAs and would allow PAs to practice medicine according to the terms of a practice agreement with one or more participating physicians.
