Rep. Jim McDermott (D-WA), ranking member of the House Ways and Means Health Subcommittee, announced Jan. 4 he will not run for re-election.
McDermott, a psychiatrist, is a prominent supporter of the Affordable Care Act as well as a single-payer health plan. He has also been a consistent critic of the Resource-Based Relative Value Update Committee (RUC), calling at times for its elimination.
McDermott was first elected in 1988. His replacement as ranking member of the House Ways and Means Health Subcommittee will be determined in early 2017.
