The American College of Radiology (ACR) Managed Care Committee will host a free educational webinar March 3 to help private payers understand the complex radiology procedures, quality control guidelines and other critical aspects of low-dose CT (LDCT) lung cancer screening programs.
The federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) mandated private payer coverage of LDCT lung cancer screening services for high-risk beneficiaries following an endorsement by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) in December 2013.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services implemented coverage, effective Feb. 5, 2015. This National Coverage Determination includes requirements to ensure that patients have access to high quality care (e.g. shared decision-making, facility eligibility criteria and registry requirements).
The webinar will help health plans understand how these elements improve patient care. Ella Kazerooni, MD, FACR, chair of the ACR Committee on Lung Cancer Screening, will address these elements and describe the features of an ideal screening program in clinical practice.
Because of its private payer emphasis, the webinar will not address provider coverage or billing and coding issues for lung cancer screening. The ACR maintains a lung cancer screening resources page for providers. Questions related to billing and coverage can be sent to LCScoverage@acr.org.
The webinar is the ACR’s seventh program in a series on various aspects of LDCT lung cancer screening. The hour-long program will begin at 3 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. An opportunity to ask questions will follow the presentations. Please use this LINK to register.
