The American Medical Association (AMA) Board of Trustees has appointed Daniel Picus, MD, FACR, RCC, to a four-year term on the AMA Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) Editorial Panel. He will be a formal observer at its February 2017 panel meeting and a voting member at subsequent panel meetings.
Because of the appointment, Picus stepped down as chairman of American College of Radiology (ACR) Economics Committee on Coding & Nomenclature (C&N) and as the College’s advisor to the AMA CPT Editorial Panel.
C&N Vice Chair Mark Alson, MD, FACR, RCC, assumed the duties of C&N committee chair and ACR CPT advisor as of Dec. 1.
Earlier this year, Picus was recognized by the editorial panel with the prestigious Burgess Gordon Memorial Award for his outstanding contributions to the CPT process. Picus served as a member of the AMA CPT Assistant Editorial Board from 2012 to 2016. He is a professor of radiology and surgery and senior vice chair in the division of diagnostic radiology at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, St. Louis.
Ezequiel Silva III, MD, FACR, chair of the ACR Commission on Economics, congratulated Picus for the appointment and expressed thanks for his more than more than eight years of service as radiology’s CPT advisor and C&N committee chair. Silva said Picus’s outstanding performance and credibility gained as ACR advisor made him a natural choice for the panel appointment.
