NRC Seeks Comments for Proposed Revision of Patient Release Guidance

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is seeking comments for a proposed revision (Revision 1) of the draft regulatory guide DG-8057, “Release of Patients Administered Radioactive Material.”

The proposed Revision 1 provides licensees with detailed, safety-related information to communicate to patients before and after they have been administered radioactive material for a medical procedure. Such NRC regulatory guides describe enforcement methods used by regulators and provide licensees with implementation guidance beyond the regulations.

Modified content in Revision 1 includes a new section on “Death of a Patient Following Radiopharmaceutical or Implants Administration,” as well as information covering record-keeping considerations. Instructions for accessing the proposed Revision 1 in the NRC’s document database are included in the corresponding Federal Register notice.

The agency is requesting public comments by August 26, 2019. ACR members interested in contributing to the College’s possible comments should contact Michael Peters, ACR director of legislative and regulatory affairs, at (202) 223-1670 x4546 or mpeters@acr.org.
