The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Advisory Panel on Hospital Outpatient Payment (the HOP Panel) met August 19 to discuss and make recommendations on issues that appear in the 2020 Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (HOPPS) proposed rule.
The HOP Panel heard from a variety of stakeholders regarding the proposal. Based on the request from one stakeholder, the HOP Panel requested that CMS review hospital data to determine whether incorrect hospital outlier data affects Ambulatory Placement Classification placement. Similar to actions at its August 2018 meeting, the HOP Panel recommended that CMS publish the methodology and details of packaging data for each major type of packaged cost.
CMS is accepting comments on the CY 2020 HOPPS proposed rule until September 27. The American College of Radiology is developing comments to submit to CMS on key issues before the deadline.
