The American College of Radiology® (ACR®) has joined the American Medical Association (AMA) to urge state governments to adopt civil immunity protections to reflect the added risks physicians and other medical practitioners are facing during the COVID-19 medical emergency.
Legal liability for health care workers and emergency responders remains a significant obstacle for physicians who are considering the best way to alter their practices to fight the pandemic.
On April 20, the AMA called on the National Governors Association in a letter to adopt civil immunity protections to preserve and expand the COVID-19 workforce during the emergency.
The ACR is taking a similar approach to help its state chapters encourage government leaders in their states to reduce legal risks of COVID-19 diagnosis and patient management. The College has prepared a sample letter to assist such advocacy efforts.
