Weeks after the move was leaked by the press, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) publicly acknowledged that Don Rucker, MD, has been appointed its National Coordinator for Health IT. He follows Jon White, MD, who served as acting national coordinator during the transition to the Trump Administration.
Rucker most recently served as a clinical professor of emergency medicine and biomedical informatics at Ohio State University and as chief medical officer at Premise Health, a worksite health and wellness services provider. He previously served for over a decade as chief medical officer at Siemens Healthcare USA where he had experience in imaging IT through the company’s offerings.
Rucker is the second emergency physician to serve as HHS’ national coordinator for health IT. The other was Vindell Washington, MD, who led ONC briefly from August 2016 to January 2017.
