On April 14, 2020, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released an updated guidance document describing policies for providing relief for Quality Payment Program (QPP) participants during the COVID-19 crisis.
The update provides more detail on the Automatic Extreme and Uncontrollable Circumstances Policy, which automatically grants a neutral payment adjustment to any MIPS-eligible individual or group that has not submitted 2019 data by April 30, 2020. If you have not submitted 2019 MIPS data, there are no additional steps to take to receive the neutral adjustment.
Individuals or groups that have already submitted data, either entirely or partially, but wish to be re-adjusted to a neutral payment, may apply for the Extreme and Uncontrollable Circumstances exemption. These applications may be submitted by the physician, a group or third party. The application deadline is April 30, 2020.
