The American College of Radiology® (ACR®) has prepared a detailed summary describing how radiologists and their practices are impacted by policy and regulatory provisions in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Interim Final Rule with comment period (IFC) for the coronavirus (COVID-19) public health emergency.
The IFC was issued March 30, 2020, with a retroactive effective date of March 1. It gives individuals and entities that provide services to Medicare beneficiaries the flexibility needed to respond effectively to serious public health threats posed by the spread of the 2019 novel coronavirus. The rule will remain effective for the duration of the public health emergency. Provisions impacting radiologists, their practices and the clinical entities that use their services include supervision regulation changes, increased patient access to telehealth services, relaxed supervision requirements for teaching physician services, and the implementation of the extreme and uncontrollable circumstances exception for the Merit Based Incentive Payment System. The comment period for the IFC ends June 1.
