ACR Education Center

Classroom of the Future

Welcome to the ACR Education Center

When the ACR Board of Chancellors embarked on a bold initiative to create a new educational paradigm for radiology, we had no idea the results would be so impressive. As we approach our first anniversary, we are proud of both the design and delivery of the courses, having trained nearly 600 radiologists and demonstrated our ability to provide the best radiology teaching available.

The ACR Education Center offers seven innovative courses this year. These courses include Body MR premiering Sept. 25-27, ACR-SPR MR Imaging of Congenital and Pediatric Cardiovascular Disorders Oct. 9-11 and Musculoskeletal MR Nov. 13-15. Please review the course selections below.

Coronary CT Angiography

Advanced imaging tools for cardiac CT imaging are developing rapidly. This course is designed to enhance your clinical practice skills by providing intense training in interpreting coronary CTA examinations under the supervision of expert faculty. Participants use workstations with vendor software the same as in their own practice. Most cases include clinical scenarios as well as coronary catheter angiography correlation. The course also covers technical considerations for obtaining optimal examinations for interpretation, using scanner simulation technology.

Breast MR with Guided Biopsy

This 100-case, 2 day course, led by Constance Lehman, MD PhD, Professor and Vice Chair of Radiology at the University of Washington and Director of Breast Imaging, is designed to provide practicing radiologists with an intensive, hands-on experience in reading breast MRI. Throughout the 2-day program participants will develop their interpretive skills through extensive case reviews at individual work stations. In addition, hands-on MRI guided biopsy workshops will provide training in accurate and safe MRI guided biopsy techniques.

CT Colonography: Supervised Case Review

CT Colonography (CTC) is an evolving technique with considerable potential for widespread screening of colorectal cancer. Application of appropriate techniques and knowledge of correct interpretation skills are vital to successfully implementing this technique. The course’s goal is to educate attendees in the technique, performance, and interpretation of CTC through the supervised review of 50 sample cases. The course will also provide a forum for discussing research initiatives, regulatory issues, and the reimbursement environment.

ACR-Dartmouth PET/CT Course

This three-day preceptorship is designed to provide practicing radiologists and nuclear medicine physicians with an intensive, hands-on experience in reading PET-CT. The course is geared to physicians who have already completed some formal course work on PET and/or PET-CT but have only gained a limited experience reading scans in their daily clinical practice. The attendee will interpret in a frontline fashion over 150 PET-CT scans covering all clinical applications including those in oncology, neurology and cardiology. Through participation in multiple scan interpretation sessions, each concluding with a detailed review of the key findings, the attendee will develop a higher level of expertise and confidence in interpreting PET-CT.

Body MR

This is a three-day intensive practical course on abdominal MR image interpretation that will focus on the most common current indications for abdominal MR – imaging of the liver, pancreas and the kidneys. It is aimed to help a range of radiologists, from the general radiology practitioner to the moderately advanced MRI expert.

Musculoskeletal MR

This three-day educational course is designed to provide the practicing radiologist an intensive hands-on experience in the technique and the interpretation of MR imaging of the knee, shoulder, ankle/foot and hip. The course is focused toward the non-musculoskeletal trained radiologist responsible for interpretation of these often complex examinations.

ACR-SPR Pediatric Cardiovascular MR

This two-and-a-half-day course is designed to optimize clinical practice skills by providing intense training in interpreting pediatric cardiac MR examinations under the supervision of expert faculty.

Testimonials from Past Participants

This type of course is far more useful for your skill set development than just a didactic lecture … and with more practical applications.

I was impressed with how all 50 cases integrated with each of the vendor platforms. We were all able to view the same courses even though we were on different platforms.

I loved the faculty to student ratio! With three visiting professors, it was like 6-to-1, and with five vendors there, that made it like 3-to-1.

The course provided easy, one-on-one instruction with an interesting mix of cases. The faculty would often point things out that were not on the syllabus. This turned participant questions into teaching points — truly instructive!
