Annual Update Change for ACR Mammography Accreditation
Effective July 1, 2007, the ACR will no longer require mammography facilities to submit a medical physicist survey for review as part of an annual update. Following an ACR request and recommendations by the National Mammography Quality Assurance Advisory Committee and the Institute of Medicine, the FDA will propose deleting the requirement for submitting the medical physicist survey with the annual survey.
Beginning July 1, 2007, the FDA intends to exercise enforcement discretion regarding the existing requirement until this proposal is approved. Facilities are reminded that even after that date, they must continue to have the medical physicist survey performed annually, and that the survey must still be submitted as part of the initial and reaccreditation processes.
Facilities accredited by the ACR must provide updated information annually to ensure timely delivery of accreditation renewal material and other important accreditation information.
To standardize this process, each year the ACR sends the contact person at every accredited facility a preprinted update to review and correct.
Please contact the ACR Breast Imaging Accreditation Line at (800) 227-6440 if you have any questions.
