CMS Developed Imaging Measures

In November 2007, CMS posted an initial set of four Imaging Efficiency measures that were reviewed for endorsement by the National Quality Forum mid-2008.

The NQF voted to endorse 2 of the 4 measures in October 2008.  The four measures were:

  1. MRI Lumbar Spine for Low Back Pain (endorsed by NQF)
  2. Mammography Follow Up Rates
  3. Use of Contrast: Thorax CT (endorsed by NQF)
  4. Use of Contrast: Abdomen CT

Details can be found here.

CMS has included all 4 of these measures in the Hospital Outpatient Quality Data Reporting Program (HOP QDRP) for CY 2010.  Click here for more info on the HOP QDRP.

Again in November 2008, a second set of imaging measures developed under contract with CMS were posted for public comment.  The public comment period ended December 14, 2008.  These measures can be seen at www.imagingmeasures.com.
