ACR Metrics Committee

The ACR Metrics Committee, under the Commission on Quality and Safety, was created in 2005 as a new initiative to develop metrics and outcomes measures for radiology. It is composed of ACR physician volunteers who are charged with developing radiology specific performance measures primarily in response to CMS’ “value-based purchasing” initiatives such as the Physicians Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI) and the Hospital Outpatient Quality Data Reporting Program (HOP QDRP). Additionally, Metrics Committee members serve as ACR representatives to major national organizations involved in quality improvement such as the National Quality Forum (NQF), the AMA Physicians Consortium for Performance Improvement (AMA PCPI), and the AQA Alliance.

ACR Metrics Committee members played a major role in convening and serving on a special Radiology workgroup with the AMA Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement (PCPI). Eight new radiology measures were developed by this workgroup (see link below).  Dr. David Seidenwurm, Chair of the Metrics Committee, served as co-chair for both the AMA PCPI Radiology Workgroup and the AMA PCPI Stroke/Stroke Rehabilitation Workgroup.  The Stroke Workgroup also developed eight measures, including two that pertain to stroke imaging.
