CMS Hospital Outpatient Quality Data Reporting Program

Beginning in 2008, under this program, hospitals will report data for services on the quality of hospital outpatient care using standardized measures of care to receive the full annual update to their OPPS payment rate.  This program has been implemented in facilities receiving payments for services under the Outpatient Prospective Payment System (HOPPS) – hospital outpatient departments and ambulatory surgical centers (ASC).

In 2009, the program includes 11 measures; 4 are outpatient imaging measures developed by The Lewin Group, NIA and L&M Policy under contract with CMS.  The 4 measures are: Use of Contrast- Abdomen CT, Use of Contrast – Thorax CT, MRI Lumbar Spine for Low Back Pain and Mammography Recall Rate.
