Joint Commission Issues MRI Sentinel Event Alert
The Joint Commission recently published their first Sentinel Event Alert on MRI Safety outlining safety concerns inherent to MRI and issuing recommendations to address these concerns. The alert borrows much of its language from the ACR Guidance Document for Safe MR Practices: 2007 and its recommendations largely mirror those previously published by the ACR. Emanuel Kanal, M.D., chair of the ACR Subcommittee on Magnetic Resonance Safety, is quoted throughout the alert.
