ACR International Service

The American College of Radiology is committed to facilitating improvements in radiological care throughout the world. In November 2004, ACR Board of Chancellors Chairman, James P. Borgstede, M.D., convened a Committee on International Service whose main purposes are:

  • To promote international and community service participation;
  • To highlight and recognize the volunteer activities of ACR members providing assistance abroad; and
  • To improve radiology in developing nations

The ACR has developed this web page to provide access to its members and other visitors interested in providing assistance to countries outside the United States. The ACR has developed a Listing of International Health Care Service Organizations that members may use to locate organizations with which they may contribute (i.e. equipment, time, money and other resources). The College is also in the process of establishing a new International Match Service, where individuals may go to match their supplies to the listed needs.

The ACR would like to learn more about your international service in radiology, such as the significant effort of the Jefferson Ultrasound Research and Education Institute in Philadelphia. If you are an ACR member and are currently assisting others in improving radiological care outside of the U.S. then we would like to hear your story. Please contact ACR International Service at 800-227-5463 ext. 4975 or internationalservice@acr.org. Your pictures would also be greatly welcomed.

How can we improve? We welcome your suggestions for improving our program. If you have further suggestions, please contact 800-227-5463 ext. 4975 or internationalservice@acr.org to let us know how we can improve.

Relief efforts continue despite difficult conditions in Pakistan. Recent weeks of dry weather were replaced by snow, sleet and icy rain compounding the ability of rescue workers to provide relief to those injured during last fall’s earthquake. Doctors without Borders provides opportunities for physicians to get involved. Visit their Web site to learn more about their ongoing relief efforts.
