Gazelle Takes Aim at Whole-Body Scanning in February Radiology
G. Scott Gazelle, MD, PhD, a member of the ACR Board of Chancellors, takes aim at the use of whole-body CT as a method to look for early signs of cancer or other diseases in an article published in the February issue of Radiology.
"Our findings show that the average person should think twice before having a whole-body CT examination," Gazelle noted in a prepared press release on the article. "When money is wasted on ineffective interventions, it drives up the cost and decreases the availability of other necessary healthcare interventions. At this time, whole-body CT screening just doesn't appear to be a good use of healthcare funding."
