ACR RFS Chair Talks of Making a Difference

Many radiologists can pinpoint a single meaningful moment in their carrers and Sanjay K. Shetty, MD, chair of the ACR's Resident and Fellow Section, is no exception. In a recent article in India New England, Shetty told of working in the emergency room at Massachusetts General Hospital more than two years ago when a teenager related an important story.

"You're a radiologist," the teenager told Shetty. "Someone like you saved my father's life," noting that the physician had noticed an abnormality on a chest x-ray that was cancer.

"[Radiologists] tend to see things that people aren't looking for and make a difference in terms of picking things up," Shetty said in the article. "You realize how much of a difference you are making in every single case that comes through. On one hand it's fascinating, and the other hand, I know it's a huge contribution."
