ACR Members Tout Benefits of New Imaging Technology

As with elsewhere in the United States, there has been a significant increase in the number of radiologists using cutting-edge imaging technology in California’s San Joaquin Valley as more facilities invest financial resources in the latest imaging equipment, according to a February 28 article in The Fresno Bee.

Recently the California Imaging Institute, scheduled to open its doors in April, installed a new $2 million, 3-Tesla MRI machine, which means Fresno-area radiologists can “do specialized brain imaging that right now patients are having to drive to UCSF or Stanford to have done,” ACR member Mariela Resendes, MD, said in the article. Resendes is a radiologist and managing partner with Community Medical Imaging, one of the firms partnering with the institute.

Ultimately, Fresno-area patients are the ones who benefit the most from the new imaging technology.

“We are pretty sophisticated in terms of imaging and we’re not a little, small town where you have to send people out for this,” noted ACR member Behzad Noorbehesht, MD, PhD, co-director of MRI at Community Regional Medical Center, in the article.
