ACR Members Lauded in Newspaper Article

What started as the beginning of just another weekend for ACR members Gregory I. Gordon, MD, and Baljit S. Deol, MD, quickly became another example of the critical role of interventional radiologists when a visitor to the Decatur, Ill., area showed up at the hospital suffering an acute stroke.

According to an article in the Nov. 22 issue of the Herald & Review, the patient walked out of the hospital two days later, thanks to the efforts of Gordon and Deol, and their associates. However, the two are quick to share the acclaim with those around them.

“Our ER staff, our neurologists, our hospitalists, our neurosurgeons, also with our interventional radiology department, the multidisciplinary activity was really exceptional,” Deol said in the article. “Within an hour, we had things rolling, and [the patient] was saved. All of those people working together was a real pleasure to see.”

Gordon noted that one of the pleasures of interventional radiology is the unlimited opportunities to make a difference in a patient’s life.

“I can tell you that at least once a month, I do something I have never done before,” Gordon said in the article. “We’re at the cutting edge of technology. We can do amazing things now; it’s wonderful. You go home and you’re like, ‘I did something good today.’”
