ACR Members Discuss Gated Radiation in TV Report


Two ACR members touted the benefits of gated radiation, a treatment considered safer for breast cancer patients, in a March 1 newscast on WBAY-TV in Green Bay, Wisc.

Christopher F. Serago, PhD, of the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla, explained that gated radiation is timed for the patient's breathing patterns, so "you can turn the beam on and off as the patient breathes."

"This means the treatments are going to be more specific," added Laura A. Vallow, MD, also of the Mayo Clinic.
