ACR Members: Digital Mammography Saves Money

A new study suggests that the use of digital mammography offers numerous benefits, including fewer call backs and reduced affiliated costs, according to a May 19 article at Diagnostic Imaging Online.

According to the article, ACR member and study coauthor Elizabeth P. Frost, MD, said that using digital mammography resulted in fewer callbacks, which meant a reduction in absenteeism, potential child care costs, and the anxiety associated with being asked to return. More specifically, "digitally magnifying images reduced the need to bring patients back for magnification views," the article reported. The study, led by ACR member Sughra Raza, MD, was conducted at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston and the findings were presented at this week's ARRS meeting in New Orleans.
