ACR Members: Digital Mammography Here to Stay

Two ACR members touted the benefits of digital mammography in a story in the January 12 edition of the Spokane (Wash.) Journal of Business as providers in that area have begun offering the new technology to their patients.

"Some of the problems with digital mammography have now been perfected, so its moment has come, and it's here to stay," noted Florence M. Gin, MD, section chief of breast imaging at Inland Imaging, who said she values the flexibility the images provide her. "I can look at a case miles away and give a valid interpretation."

In the article, Cindy L. Tortorelli, MD, a clinical breast imaging specialist at Inland Imaging, points out that digital mammography has been shown to surpass film-based mammography in detection of cancer in women who have dense breasts, in premenopausal and perimenopausal women, and in women under age 50.
