ACR Fellow Smoron to Receive Honor
ACR Fellow Geoffrey L. Smoron, M.D., will be presented the Chicago Radiological Society’s Distinguished Service Award at the Society’s April 18 meeting. The award recognizes Smoron’s service to radiation oncology and his leadership in organized medicine, both at the state and national level.
Smoron, president of Midwest Radiation Oncology Consultants, completed his undergraduate studies at Loyola University in Chicago and received his medical degree from Loyola Stritch School of Medicine. In addition to his longtime affiliation with Northwestern University Medical School, Smoron has served as medical director of the School of Radiation Therapy Technology at Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin, Ill.
Active in numerous professional organizations, Smoron is past president of the Chicago Radiological Society. A member of the executive committee of the Illinois Radiological Society, Smoron chaired the fellowship committee for 15 years, during which time nearly 40 of the state’s radiologists, radiation oncologists, and medical physicists were honored with ACR fellowships. Previously an alternate councilor and councilor for the ACR’s Executive Council, Smoron was presented with the Distinguished Committee Service Award in 1999 for his work as liaison to the College of American Pathologists for the College’s Commission on Radiation Oncology.
