ACR Fellow Jaffe Passes Away
ACR Fellow Henry L. Jaffe, M.D., a recognized pioneer in the development of nuclear medicine, passed away March 6 in Rancho Mirage, Calif., after a short illness. Jaffe was 96.
Among his numerous achievements, Jaffe developed a color scanning technology for nuclear medicine, allowing for an earlier diagnosis of cancer, strokes, and various infections. Additionally, Jaffe was one of the founders and the first president of the Society of Nuclear Medicine.
A native of Chicago, Jaffe graduated from the University of Wisconsin before earning his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School. A U.S. Navy veteran, Jaffe served in leadership capacities of several major hospitals, including Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and Century City Hospital, both in Los Angeles. In additional to his clinical and research efforts, Jaffe was a clinical professor of radiology at the University of Southern California School of Medicine for many years.
