Radiologists More Satisfied With Careers Than Other Doctors

A study of radiologist professional satisfaction, conducted by the ACR Research Department and ACR member-in-training and former ACR Health Services Research Fellow, Hanna Zafar, M.D., M.H.S, has just been published in the July issue of Radiology.

Satisfaction of Radiologists in the United States: A Comparison between 2003 and 1995, based on data from the ACR's 2003 Survey of Radiologists, found that more than nine out of 10 radiologists enjoyed their profession. Radiologists were also found to be more satisfied with their careers than are other physicians.

However, as with physicians overall, radiologists’ professional satisfaction has decreased over time. The three most common reasons for the decrease were: medicolegal climate, workload, and reimbursement and/or financial pressures.
