Change in Appointment Date for New RRC Members
Currently, some residency review committee (RRC) members serve three-year terms that begin in January and end in December while others serve three-year terms that begin in July and end in June.
In order to provide a smooth orientation and transition of RRC members and to address requests from constituents and the ACGME Board to standardize and streamline procedures, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) has announced that it will change the start date of all new member appointments to July. In order to accommodate the change, a few committee members have agreed to extend their terms by six months.
The ACGME will now communicate with the organizations from which RRC members are chosen in January, instead of July, of each year regarding the general and specialty characteristics required for a new RRC member as well as the deadline for submitting the name(s) of the new member(s).
Once a new member is approved by the RRC and confirmed by the ACGME Board of Directors, the RRC Executive Director will send to the new member detailed information about dates of the ACGME Orientation and all RRC meetings for the coming year.
