ACRIN/RTOG Recruit Sites for First ACRIN Prospective Brain Imaging Trial

The American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN) is collaborating with the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) to conduct the imaging component of the trial: A Randomized Phase II Trial of Bevacizumab with Irinotecan or Bevacizumab with Temozolomide in Recurrent Glioblastoma (RTOG 0625/ACRIN 6677).

ACRIN principal investigator Gregory Sorensen, M.D., from the A.A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging at Massachusetts General Hospital, led the development of the trial’s imaging component with the objectives to:

  • assess the potential role of perfusion MRI and magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging (MRSI or MRS) as an early indicator of response to the therapy after two weeks of treatment
  • assess the potential role of perfusion MRI and MRS as a prognostic indicator based on pre-treatment images and images obtained both at two weeks and two cycles after treatment.

Sites where the patient is enrolled and receives protocol treatment must be a current RTOG member or affiliate. All sites enrolling participants in the RTOG 0625/ACRIN 6677 trial will coordinate the trial’s baseline imaging component. In addition, sites have the opportunity to participate in the optional advanced imaging component that includes performing dynamic contrast enhanced (DCE) or dynamic susceptibility contrast (DSC) MRI sequences along with MRS.

Details regarding the advanced imaging requirements are described in the protocol’s Appendix V. An RTOG site may collaborate with an independent imaging facility that meets all requirements for the protocol’s imaging component.
