ACR International Volunteer System Web Site Launched
On November 15, the ACR launched a new Web site, the ACR International Volunteer System (ACRIVS), aimed at facilitating matches between radiology needs in developing nations and regions in the world with a need for radiologic services and support with U.S.-based radiologists who are interested in volunteering their expertise.
ACRIVS will provide a unique opportunity for organizations, hospitals, and clinics providing radiology services in developing countries to register on-line and help identify needs such as physician volunteers, equipment, training materials, or monetary support. Radiologists and other health personnel may register on-line as a volunteer for service abroad or may seek to sponsor others willing to serve. The site will facilitate the potential pairing of radiologic health care needs in underserved nations with the service interests of radiologists here in the United States.
The new site will feature articles on international radiology service, a discussion forum on international service experiences and the delivery of radiology abroad, and a photo journal of radiologists serving in other countries. The site will also include useful links, including international travel alerts and information on other radiology organizations providing services abroad. The program was launched by the ACR Committee on International Service, chaired by ACR President James P. Borgstede, MD.
For more information on the ACRIVS please see the November issue of the ACR Bulletin. You may also visit the Web site or contact Brad Short at bshort@acr.org.
