Education for Chapter Leaders and Next Year’s AMCLC

During this year’s meeting of the Chapter Executive Directors and Secretaries at the ACR Annual Meeting and Chapter Leadership Conference several ideas came up about next year’s meeting.  One of the ideas offered is to include several break-out sessions on topics related to leading and administering an ACR chapter.  Topics may include: planning a meeting with CME credit, legal issues pertinent to ACR chapters and things to consider when thinking about using a lobbyist.

What do you think?  Would this information be valuable to you and your chapter?  Are there other topics that are of interest?  Does it make sense to explore holding these sessions during the AMCLC?  Would you prefer a different format?  Your feedback is really critical in helping us plan and develop resources to meet your needs.  Please share your ideas by contacting Kelly Foster at kellyf@acr.org or 800.227.5463, ext. 4917.

Background on Listings of New Members in the ACR Bulletin

Have you ever scanned the list of New Members in the ACR Bulletin and asked yourself, “Why is John Doe listed under California when I know he’s a Nevada chapter member?”  Or maybe you’ve asked yourself, “Why is Joanna Doe listed under Connecticut, and we don’t have her listed on our Connecticut roster?”

The listing in the ACR Bulletin lists new ACR members by state according to their mailing address.  This listing has no connection to chapter membership.

The following are a few reasons why a member listed under your state does not appear on your chapter membership roster:

·         The mailing address is a home address, which doesn’t match the chapter affiliation.

·         They are a member of a chapter not in the state where they either live or work.  This is in accordance with an ACR bylaws change made during last month’s council meeting.  The change gives members the right to join the chapter where they conduct their principal practice, where they reside, or within 25 miles of either of those locations

·         They are ACR Introductory members (people recently out of training who have eighteen months to formally join a chapter).  Look for them on your Regular Chapter Roster if your chapter considers ACR introductory members to also be a member of your chapter.  If your chapter does not consider ACR introductory members to also be a member of your chapter, then look for them on your Prospective Chapter Member Roster.

·         They are not a chapter member - Active military and full time public health service employees are not required to join a chapter.

You may contact Barbara Quattrone in the ACR Membership Department for additional information.  You may reach Barbara at either barbaraq@acr.org or 800.347.7748.

Update on Stipend for 2003 AMCLC

As you should recall, the ACR will issue each chapter a stipend of $1,000 for sending a representative to the Carrier Advisory Committee meeting held in conjunction with the 2003 ACR Annual Meeting and Chapter Leadership Conference.  Additionally, the College will issue $200 for each member of the chapter’s delegation who made a Congressional visit and submitted a Congressional Response Form.

The ACR prefers to write one check per chapter.  In order to do this we are developing a list of chapter members who have returned Congressional Response Forms.  In time, we will also contact via email anyone who registered to make a Congressional visit, but has not yet submitted a response form.  Once everyone has had ample opportunity to submit a response form, we will write one check to the chapter for the amount due.

You can help expedite this process by reminding members of your delegation, if they have not done so already, to complete and return a Congressional Response Form.  An electronic copy of this form is attached to this email.
