Emergency ACR Meeting for Chapter Leaders
In mid-November, chapter presidents, vice presidents, presidents elect, and chapter executive staff received notification of an emergency ACR meeting to be held for chapter leaders on February 26, 2005, in Chicago. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss a possible strategy for addressing issues related to overutilization of diagnostic imaging services on Capitol Hill. The ACR will cover the travel, lodging, and per diem costs of 2 representatives from each chapter to attend the meeting. Click here to see the meeting announcement. Chapter Recognition Deadline Nears – Submissions Due by December 31!
Would you like to see your chapter recognized with a Chapter Recognition Award during the 2005 Annual Meeting and Chapter Leadership Conference? If so, act now! The deadline for submissions for the 2004 awards is December 31. These awards recognize chapter activities in the areas of communications, government relations, meetings and education, and membership and will be presented at the 2005 AMCLC.

Please Share With Your Members – ACR to Make Recommendations of Radiologists to ABR
The American Board of Radiology (ABR) has informed the ACR that they are seeking recommendations of individuals with expertise in gastrointestinal radiology and general radiology. They are looking for individuals who are serious and independent thinkers experienced in radiologic education and who have a reputation in the specialty they represent. The ABR has asked that consideration be given to gender and minorities and that the nominees should be willing to serve the significant time commitment necessary if selected. ABR trustees are selected for a 4-year term, which is renewable for an additional term.
The ABR has asked us to submit at least 3 names for each category. All candidates must include a current curriculum vitae, a recent black and white photograph, at least 2 letters of support, and a completed questionnaire describing the nature of their practice and their position on issues important to the College. The information is reviewed by the College Nominating Committee and used for publishing the election manual. The questionnaire and nomination information are available on the ACR Web site or through the ACR main office. All information can be mailed or forwarded electronically to Mary Jane Donahue at maryjaned@acr.org.
Additionally, all candidates must be present at the ACR Council meeting on Sunday, April 10, 2005. Only those candidates in contested elections will make a presentation to the council prior to the election; however, all candidates must be present so they can be introduced to the council.
ACR Web Site Lists Upcoming Chapter Meetings
The ACR Web site has been updated with listings of upcoming chapter meetings. Trina Madison in the Office of Council and Chapter Services updates these listings as we receive notification from chapter leaders. To list an upcoming meeting, please complete the ACR Chapter Meeting Profile form.
As a reminder, chapter leaders who submit this form at least 3 months prior to the meeting earn 10 points for their chapter towards a chapter recognition award in the meetings and education category. Please contact Trina Madison at trinam@acr.org or (800) 227-5463, ext 4998, for more information about listing you chapter's upcoming meeting or earning a chapter recognition award.
Call for Volunteers for the ACR Committee on Chapters
We are looking for past or current chapter leaders to fill 2 vacant positions on the ACR Committee on Chapters. One of the individuals will serve as chair of the committee and as a member of the ACR Commission on Membership and Chapter Programs. The mission of the committee consists of the following goals:
- To enhance the relationship between the ACR and its chapters
- To assist chapters in the development and implementation of programs and services to better serve their members
- To develop a program to recognize and support the activities of chapters who excel in fulfilling both the mission of their chapter and of the ACR
In addition to fulfilling the mission of the committee, members serve as judges for the Chapter Recognition Awards, and the chair of the committee presents the awards during the Annual Meeting and Chapter Leadership Conference.
If you would like to be considered for a position on the committee, please submit your name and a statement of interest to Trina Madison no later than December 31. 2005 Membership Dues Invoices Sent
The ACR sent membership dues invoices for most classes of membership last week. Invoices for members who have just made the transition from training to practice, formerly known as introductory members, will go out shortly. If your chapter has the ACR bill for your members, this was included in the invoices sent last week.
If you or any of your members have not yet received a dues invoice and are anxious to make a payment before the end of the calendar year, please contact staff in the Membership Services Department to make a payment over the phone or to have an invoice faxed to you. - December 1, 2004 – Deadline for submitting nominations to the ACR College Nominating Committee for the 2005 elections
- December 15, 2004 – Deadline for submitting names of members in training your chapter plans to sponsor to attend the AMCLC and Resident and Fellow Section meeting
- December 31, 2004 – Deadline for submissions for 2004 Chapter Recognition Awards
- January 17, 2005 – Deadline for submitting resolutions for consideration before the ACR Council
- May 1, 2005 – Deadline for submitting ACR fellowship nominations for the 2006 convocation
