What Is the ACR Chapter Executive Update?

Welcome new chapter officers! Spring is officer-changing season for many ACR chapters, making this a good time to welcome new readers. The ACR Chapter Executive Update is a bimonthly, electronic publication for chapter officers and administrators. It offers a timely way to share information about ACR events and deadlines. It is also a venue to share information about chapter activities. Your comments and suggestions are always welcome.

The ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards that were approved at the 2004 Annual Meeting and Chapter Leadership Conference are now available on the ACR Web site as they were adopted. Bold and struck-through text indicate changes that were made by the committee prior to the meeting. The track changes shown are revisions made during the annual meeting prior to adoption. Case Study From the Florida Radiological Society Featured in the JACR

The May 2004 issue of the JACR featured the article “The Florida Radiological Society’s efforts to correct the professional liability insurance crisis” (Bagby RJ, Dudley A, Porter AH, Muroff LR, Entel R, Maloy R, pages 364-365). The article details how the FRS leveraged their resources and galvanized a grassroots network to call attention to the negative impact the high cost of liability insurance has on patient care. This article is available online at www.jacr.org.

Used as a case study, this article may be helpful to other chapters facing similar issues in their state and to chapters looking for ideas on waging grassroots campaigns. Case studies like this one are valuable ways to share knowledge. Case studies don’t always have to be success stories. Sometimes, despite our best efforts, things don’t turn out the way we planned. There is however, much to be learned from the planning and process of the effort. Chapter leaders can build on the experiences of each other. As Thomas Edison once said, “I start where the last man left off.”

What’s happened in your chapter that could become a case study for others to learn from? What would it take to develop it into an article for the JACR or other ACR publication? If you have an idea and want to discuss it with someone, please contact staff in the ACR Office of Council and Chapter Services at chapters@acr.org or (800) 401-1438.

Help Your Chapter Earn a Chapter Recognition Award

Now through the end of December 2004, chapters can make submissions for consideration for 2004 chapter recognition awards. These awards recognize chapter activities during the year and will be presented at the 2005 AMCLC. Award criteria and submission forms are available on the ACR Web site. In the next few weeks, chapters will receive a report from the ACR Office of Council and Chapter Services on the number of points earned. If you have questions about the chapter recognition program, please contact Trina Madison at trinam@acr.org or (800) 227-5463, ext 4998.
