Thanks for Your Patience as the ACR Implements a New Database
On July 6, the ACR began using a new database to track member information. The transition to the new system has gone fairly well. However, as is the case with many organizational changes that involve technology, it takes time to adjust to the new system and ensure that all resources are in place to provide quality service to members and chapters. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to ensure information you request about your members is accurate. If you have concerns or questions, please contact Kelly Foster at either kellyf@acr.org or (800) 227-5463, ext 4917.
Please Welcome New State Government Relations Specialist Ariel Gonzalez
Please join us in welcoming Ariel Gonzalez to the ACR staff. Ariel joins the Government Relations Department as a state government relations specialist. He replaces Ted Burnes, who held the position until taking over as director of RADPAC in May. Ariel will be working to help chapters monitor and address legislative issues at the state level.
Ariel received a bachelor's degree in psychology from James Madison University, earned a master's degree in legislative affairs from George Washington University, and is currently pursuing a law degree at Catholic University. He comes to the ACR from Premier, Inc., a group purchasing organization, where he worked in government relations and grassroots advocacy. You can reach Ariel at either arielg@acr.org or (800) 227-5463, ext 4488.
Volunteerism and Leadership Development: A Scenario From the 2004 Chapter Workshop
Election time is right around the corner. You are the current distinguished chapter president. As part of the normal rotation, you have 2 vacancies for ACR councilors and 2 other Executive Committee members' terms are ending. Although all of the current officers and councilors are eligible to serve another term, only the current secretary is willing to serve again. (Your chapter is experiencing a leadership meltdown!) Click here to read more about this scenario and some of the suggestions made by participants in this year's chapter workshop. Click here to learn more about the chapter workshop and other scenarios.
ACR Practice Guideline for Communication: Diagnostic Radiology Ready for Review and Comment
The ACR Practice Guideline for Communication: Diagnostic Radiology is up for revision for the 2005 cycle. The communication guideline has been controversial to ACR members ever since its development in 1991. It has gone through revisions in 1995, 1999, and 2001. Following discussion at the 2003 AMCLC, a task force was developed to explore concerns with the guideline. The task force presented a white paper at the 2004 AMCLC. The revised guideline is a result of the work of the task force. The comment period begins August 16. This is the opportunity for chapter leaders and their members to participate in the process to revise this and other guidelines.
The communication guideline is one of 6 guidelines included in the second group of practice guidelines and technical standards that are ready for review and comment.
These guidelines will be posted on the ACR Web site beginning August 16 and include the following:
- ACR Practice Guideline for Communication: Diagnostic Radiology
- ACR Practice Guideline for the Performance of Computed Tomography (CT) Colonography in Adults
- ACR Practice Guideline for the Performance of Gastrointestinal Scintigraphy
- ACR Practice Guideline for the Performance of Stereotactically Guided Breast Interventional Procedures
- ACR Practice Guideline for the Performance of Ultrasound-Guided Percutaneous Breast Interventional Procedures
- Practice Guideline for the Performance of Pediatric and Adult Cerebrovascular Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA)
This group of drafts will be on the Web site to review and comment until September 10. Please contact Margaret Wyatt at margaretw@acr.org or (800) 227-5463, ext 4247, with questions or concerns about this review and comment process.
