The ACR ensures the voice of the radiology profession is heard by:

ACR Practice Guidelines & Technical Standards in book and CD-ROM format address a variety of diagnostic, interventional, and therapeutic procedures. They are updated and published yearly and free to all ACR members.

ACR Appropriateness Criteria™ are guidelines to assist radiologists, radiation oncologists, and referring clinicians in making initial decisions about radiologic tests and therapeutic procedures. They are available free online for members.

Accreditation Programs

The ACR has accreditation programs in CT, MRI, mammography, nuclear medicine and PET, ultrasound, breast ultrasound, stereotactic breast biopsy, and radiation oncology, with information available online, along with a searchable accredited facilities list.

ACR Clinical Research Results

The ACR has been a major factor in radiology clinical research since the establishment of the Philadelphia office in 1975. From this office, the ACR administers clinical trial activities funded by the National Cancer Institute. The results of these studies help shape medical practice, and are published in the JACR, ACR Bulletin, and online.

  • The American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN) is a National Cancer Institute–funded cooperative group, whose overarching goal is—through clinical trials of diagnostic imaging and image-guided therapeutic technologies—to generate information that will lengthen and improve the quality of the lives of cancer patients.
  • The Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) represents a cooperative effort of physicians, physicists, biologists, and biostatisticians pursuing clinical investigations to increase cure and improve palliation of patients with cancer.

Research Studies

The ACR conducts and publishes socioeconomic research in major clinical journals. A list of published articles and journal links is online at www.acr.org.
